Description

Machine vision systems based on 3D triangulation are employed in a range of industries from automotive and electronics manufacturing to lumber mills. The goal of this technology is to make a 3D reconstruction of the object under analysis in order to check or measure different features. For instance, to check diameter of a certain hole, to check the dimensions of a certain piece, or to detect defects on a surface, such as scratches or material excess.

Stable linear platform with a control unit and adjustable camera and laser positioning.

Triangulation System

In laser-based triangulation systems, a narrow band of light projected onto a 3D surface produces a line of illumination that will appear distorted from an observation perspective other than that of the projector. Analysis of the shape of these line images can then be used to achieve an accurate geometric reconstruction of the object’s surface shape.

SOFTWARE

3D software able to provide the 3D information of the target object

Summarizing, SOLPI can provide the following elements for 3D Triangulation:

  • Vision components, such as cameras and lenses.
  • Mechanical components, such as conveyor belt and structure to assemble all the vision components.
  • Software to generate the 3D profiles and range maps.
  • Consultancy services and trainings.

Example

Here you can see the same 3D reconstruction process applied to a blister for pills:
It can be clearly seen that two of the pill holders are damaged and there fore, this blister must be rejected.
