Description

Machine vision systems based on 3D triangulation are employed in a range of industries from automotive and electronics manufacturing to lumber mills. The goal of this technology is to make a 3D reconstruction of the object under analysis in order to check or measure different features. For instance, to check diameter of a certain hole, to check the dimensions of a certain piece, or to detect defects on a surface, such as scratches or material excess.

Triangulation System

In laser-based triangulation systems, a narrow band of light projected onto a 3D surface produces a line of illumination that will appear distorted from an observation perspective other than that of the projector. Analysis of the shape of these line images can then be used to achieve an accurate geometric reconstruction of the object’s surface shape.
